2024 Energy Forecast
Hey everyone, I hope you're all easing back into post Holy Day living and feeling curious and excited for the year ahead. For those who enjoy annual Tarot card readings as much as I do, please feel warmly invited to have a look at my own reading for the collective in 2024. It's a favourite New Year tradition of mine to explore energy forecasts for the upcoming year. While each year I do an annual reading for myself, this is my first experience in sharing a Tarot reading of the energies of the upcoming year for the collective.
This Tarot reading was made using the "Fairy Tarot Cards" Deck by Radleigh Valentine with illustrations by Howard David Johnson. This is my go-to deck as I'm continually receiving new input from the imagery and find that the cards themselves help to find a positive lesson in every situation. One card was drawn for each month of the year plus a 13th card was drawn for the overall theme of 2024. Both personal and societal interpretations have been ascribed for each card. I drew the cards on January 3rd and the full interpretation was completed between then and today, January 5th.
As with all offerings, remember that you're empowered as an individual and aren't required to take on any meaning or interpretation that doesn't resonate with you. Take what feels helpful and leave behind what doesn't.
January: The 5 of Summer
The year kicks off on an introverted foot. The dancer looks back into the darkness as she leans into the coming dawn. Emotional change is upon us. It's time to leave behind the ghosts of pandemic past and to lean into the unknowns awaiting us. The mood of January is reflective, intuitive and transitional. This is an opportune time to return to or spend time at home and to appreciate the good that you have here. Dance, solitude, evening meditations and time spent in nature can provide support through this period of emotional processing.
International Focus: Forests, The Arts, Self-care, Depression, Sex Trafficking, Sex work
February: The 10 of Summer
Having stepped back into the light after a period of reflective solitude, we're able to more fully embrace the joys of human connection. Now that our emotional cups are full and overflowing, we can be present for our relationships, meeting the needs of others from a place of fullness and enjoying each other's company. Family togetherness and emotional connection are themes of the month. Music, evening walks and time spent on or near water can provide support and enjoyment at this time.
International Focus: Waterways, Wetlands, Insects, Gender Roles, the Family as an institution, Education
March: The 8 of Winter
It looks like the groundhog saw its shadow and predicted four more weeks of Winter back on February 2nd because the energy is the feeling of entrapment and stagnation. Fortunately, this sense of stuck-ness resides in the mental realm: it's just an idea that holds power over us until we're ready to let it go. This is a good month to practice mindfulness and/or cognitive behavioural therapy techniques that help to interrupt rumination, victim narratives and/or negative self-talk. This is also a great time to turn off the news for good. Focus on your immediate environment and take note of all the good things that are happening all around you. Notice all the peaceful interactions, good will and harmony that we take for granted in our day to day lives. Whatever you are going through right now, shifting your mental framework to one that is attuned to your immediate environment, solution oriented and focused on recognition of positive happenings will serve to snap you out of the illusion of entrapment.
International Focus: Glaciers, Sea level, Ice caps, Misinformation, Depression, Social Isolation
April: The 4 of Spring (Reversal)
The energies of May suggest harmony on both the inter-personal level and societal levels. Expect closeness and emotional security in romantic partnerships and a happy balance between work and family life. This is a time of social cohesion and stable leadership and cooperation on the macrocosmic level. The time of relative peace and stability provides an opportunity for our focus to zero in on the future. Security as it pertains to information, finances and military defenses will be on the political agenda. This is an opportune time to reflect on all the good that we experience on the inter-personal and societal levels and that we take for granted. Practice gratitude. Also, consider the relevance of rites of passage to your own life. Could it be time for you to celebrate a milestone or immerse yourself in an experience pertaining to your personal or spiritual development? Enjoy the (relative) blue skies and be sure to step into the daylight to enjoy wild flowers, meadows and the countryside.
International Focus: Gender Roles, Marriage as an Institution, Wealth Inequality, Gender pay gap, International Security, Biodiversity
May: The Wheel (Reversal)
The cosmic wheel is turning and it's quite a spin. Expect movement and dramatic shifts of the status quo on the personal and societal levels. If you find yourself swimming against the current, will power will be crucial. And if you're swimming with the current: surf's up, dude! Expect societal changes in response to innovation. The impacts of AI will be revolutionary. Unexpected inflows and outflows of resources and shifts of power dynamics are likely. Look for the reemergence of old patterns in new shapes and try not to reinvent the wheel. Travel could be a theme this month. This is a good time to check-in with yourself to evaluate if your current life trajectory is in line with your authentic values and aspirations, or if you are succumbing to the pressures, expectations and values of others. Looking up close at the extraordinary details of nature: flower petals, leaf structure and seashells can be healing and meditative at this time.
International Focus: Finance, Trade, Gold, Automation, Asia as an economic and political focus
June: Justice
The month portends a clear conclusion to a deep and longstanding dispute. The truth hurts and demands societal and individual self-reflection. Was it worth it? Who won? And at what cost? Just as a sword is double edged, so too is the nature of this supposed win. The law of consequence has been evoked and we must all humbly submit to its verdict. It's a good time to acknowledge the ways in which we have ourselves played the perpetrator in personal dealings, to mourn victims and to ask for forgiveness. Vindication for those who have been harmed can be expected. The Laws of Nature come into focus as humans bump up against them in our pursuit of all things bigger, faster, shinier and more convenient. Natural laws will always break through the cracks of ideology's armor. Remember to practice fairness in your personal and working relationships. Reflect on the balance of opposites and the power of nature.
International Focus: Israel, Palestine, Legal decisions, International Agreements, War, the military, Truth and reconciliation, Forests, medicinal plants in pharmaceuticals.
July: The 3 of Winter
This is a time of mental anguish. The energy is heady and cold. We're in the trenches of acute crisis now. On the international stage the Ukraine-Russia conflict is front and center. It's hard to ascertain the nuances and complexities of the situation at hand. Communication is muffled and visibility obscured. If you haven't already, turn off the news. In the personal arena, making peace between the heart and the mind will keep us plenty busy. Keeping them in constant dialogue is our most important assignment. Lean into the support of trusted masculine figures and traditional structures and find comfort in connection with animals. Find or work with a mentor. Take refuge in a spiritual practice. This too shall pass.
International Focus: Ukraine, Russia, NATO, mis- and dis-information, military, war, The Cold War
August: The 5 of Winter (Reversal)
Now is a time to keep ethics in the foreground of decision making. Practice discernment in business dealings and make sure your associations are with trustworthy individuals and ethical organisations. There is an emerging awareness of shady dealings, corruption, deception and ruthlessness, particularly on the international political stage. Stay wary of propaganda and remember to judge people on their behaviour and actions and not on slick pitches and pretty sounding words. This period represents a significant mental adjustment. You have an opportunity to fine tune your values and ethics, to make a shift in your mental framework and to become clearer on the ethical intentions of individuals and institutions. Walk away as needed. Course correct your own behaviour as needed, too. Sunset walks and lots of fresh air can help you clear your head.
International Focus: Regime change, military strategy, political alliances, wealth inequality, banking, hoarding, greed, corporate ethics (or lack thereof), Machiavellian politics, dissolving business partnerships.
September: The Prince of Spring
Blue skies above and full speed ahead. The energy shifts, centering ambition, career pursuits and creative projects. It's a time for visionary thinking and the capacity to focus on the bigger picture. The details can be tended to later. Motivation and confidence are high. And so are competitiveness and bravado. A figure displaying these qualities - with hotheadedness and immaturity to boot - might come charging onto the international stage. It's a time for spectacular performances and theatrics galore. Get ready for campaign pageantry and passionate election promises. Again, turn off the news if you haven't already! On the personal level, our imaginations and capacity for creation are especially fertile. Now is a window to make strong headway on a creative project or in your career. The winds of inspiration promise swift sailing and adventure. Godspeed! Be sure to get outside in the daylight to enjoy running, cycling, skating, horseback riding, kite flying, or kite surfing.
International focus: The US presidential election, populism, billionaire CEOs, the UK Royal Family, Geo-engineering, lab-grown meat, fertility, grasslands.
October: The Ace of Summer
This is a month of emotional rejuvenation, innocence, healing and personal breakthroughs. The universe presents us with an opportunity for a new start in our emotional lives. That might look like a new romantic relationship, the deepening of an existing romantic partnership, conception or birth, or even a spiritual awakening. Expect your emotional cup to be full and overflowing. Joy and gratitude are abundant and easily graspable. Your arms can't help but to open wide to love. The energy has become receptive after last month's active phase. The focus shifts from doing to being and receiving. Drink in the goodness that surrounds you. Peace is in reach on the interpersonal and societal levels. After an intense summer, this month feels soft and flowy. Make the most of it by spending daytime hours in close proximity to water, bird watching, meditating and spending quality time with your children. This is an innocent time so make a special effort to avoid media and content that makes you feel cynical or jolts you into fight or flight. Favour input that brings out your child-like wonder.
International focus: Peace treaties, restoration of peace, waterways, child-care, pregnancy and birth
November: The 6 of Winter
It's time to leave the past behind and to make a move, bringing some physical distance between oneself and a tense and competitive environment. The difference between leaving and retreating is your frame of mind. In any case, you're sailing to smoother waters. This is a time for building bridges, smoothing things over and making repairs to previous harms done in relationships. A buffer of mental space for processing will be beneficial for all parties. Travel could be a theme. It's a transitional time characterised by movement and a change of environment. It might not be clear exactly what to expect when you arrive on the other side, but chances are good that it will be better suited to your present needs. On the international stage, migration could be an important focus, with emphasis placed on those seeking refuge across bodies of water. Plan evening walks, spend time on or near water, meditate by candle light and be sure to get plenty of alone time to make the best out of the current energies.
International focus: Migration, channel crossings, Oceans and rivers, International diplomacy, Shipping and trade routes, Socioeconomic recovery, political distancing, Canadian political leadership.
December: The Star
Optimism and hope abound. The year ends on a positive note and the future is looking bright, too. After a tumultuous year marked by crises, we have arrived at a place of healing and repair. There's hope for humanity yet. And the worst of the struggles we have endured are behind us. Sure, we might have had to cut our losses last month, but it was the appropriate choice and we are so much lighter for having done so. Inspiration and motivation are abundant and we are operating from a mindset of faith and positivity. Enjoy this period of rejuvenation. Celebrate this magical time by stargazing, holiday decorating and viewing lighting exhibitions and firework displays. Dance the night away while you're at it. Shine on, bright one!
International focus: AI, advancement in medical treatments and innovation, AI art, striking a balance between nature and technology, the energy economy, green energy, astronomy, space exploration.
Overall Annual Theme for 2024: The 6 of Autumn
As we make our way through the year as individuals, it will be important to continually tap back into the collective and our position within it. If we win, does that mean that someone else must lose, or can we live life outside of a zero sum game? Sometimes we will find ourselves coming out on top and other times we will fall. So is the human journey. Remember when your pockets are full and your cups are overflowing to be generous and empathetic to those who are struggling. And when you find yourself struggling, know that your time will come, too. In the meantime take care of your frame of mind and show mercy and compassion to your fellow humans. Whereas during the pandemic years the concept of solidarity was bandied about and frequently came at the expense of othering and social exclusion, this year offers ample opportunities for compassion and genuine acts of material and emotional support. Abandon virtue signalling, embrace acts of kindness and exit the 'us versus them' paradigm for the benefit of humanity. This year should bring about a restoration of balance that we have been missing personally and socially throughout the pandemic years.
International focus: ethical distribution of resources, wealth distribution, women's economic empowerment, cooperatives, sustainable housing
