Creating Visual Impact for Substack Stories

One of my favourite applications of text-to-image generative art is creating compelling feature images for Substack articles. These visuals serve as powerful entry points, evoking an article's core themes while drawing readers into the narrative. Below are examples of editorial artwork I've generated for my Substack publications, each created to strengthen the reader's connection to the storytelling.

Below are the feature images I generated for my four-part series "Adventures in Conspiracy: Conspiracy Theories, Power & Accountability" on Substack. Each visual was designed to capture the distinct themes explored within the series.

The images chart a path through the complex landscape of conspiracy theories, moving from verified historical examples to far-out theories, while examining their psychological appeal and deployment as tools of political misdirection.

My artistic approach centers on creating iconic, bold images that communicate with clarity and impact. Each piece typically focuses on a single, commanding element - often a face or figure - rendered in a way that balances artistic interpretation with enough realism to forge an emotional connection with viewers.

While not pursuing photorealism, I strive for a compelling authenticity that draws viewers in and holds their attention. My aesthetic deliberately incorporates elements of mixed media artwork - textures, scratches and imperfections - reminiscent of handcrafted collages. This DIY sensibility adds depth and character to each piece, creating artwork that feels both contemporary and tactile.

My goal is immediacy: creating images that are instantly graspable yet reward deeper engagement. By keeping compositions uncomplicated but meaningful, I aim to create work that serves both as striking standalone art and as powerful visual storytelling.
